Among the positive indicators, retail sales growth reached 4.4% and 4.9% y-o-y in July and August 2013 respectively. This follows a sustained improvement in consumer confidence readings, which have remained in a general uptrend since late 2012, despite social and political unrest. However, confidence surveys show that a significant majority of the population retains a negative outlook, and ongoing instability implies this will remain the case for some time.
