Prepaid cards continues to perform better than almost any other category in consumer finance, with retail value growth of 15% in 2013. Open loop gift cards as well as employee reward programmes were the major source of growth in 2013. Issuers and operators continue to seek out new niche growth opportunities as card payment penetration continues in Australia. Key growth areas include foreign currency cards, employee rewards programmes and government payments.
