Recent Study: Tobacco in Egypt
Following a series of tax hikes introduced since 2010, the cigarette industry in Egypt saw retail volume sales decline for a number of years. 2013, however, marked a return to growth as controls over illicit trade were tightened and consumers increasingly became used to higher prices. This was also helped by the fact that there were no further tax rises during the year. In addition, flavour capsules put a positive spin on market performance.
