Synthetic Absorbable Sutures Could Determine the Future of Global Wound Closure Devices Market
A research conducted by analysts shows that about 100 million wounds were treated in U.S. hospitals in 2011. The wounds included the ones caused by amputations, diabetes, pressure and venous ulcers, surgical wounds, burns, and arterial and traumatic wounds. During the same year the wound closure devices market generated revenue of around US$3.8 billion. The devices included energy-based closure devices, sutures, and wound closure strips, automated suturing products, stapling systems, surgical sealants and glues, and negative pressure wound therapy systems.
