Both mature and developing alcoholic drinks categories in Costa Rica experienced increased competition in 2015 - a development which, along with product innovation and changing consumer value expectations, were the main sales drivers within the area during 2015. Volume and value growth remained limited in 2015, with there being a clear trend towards modest pricing and an increase in the penetration of affordable products targeting the growing base of middle-income consumers.
