Recently Released Market Study: Packaged Food in Malaysia
The inflation rate in Malaysia continued to rise in 2012. According to the Malaysian Statistics Department, the consumer price index rose by 2% from 102.4 to 104.5 during the period between January and May 2012. With rising inflation and slow economic growth, the rising cost of living forced consumers to adopt more rigid spending patterns in order to be able to afford to pay their bills. Hence, impulse and indulgence categories such as confectionery encountered slower demand from consumers.
