Studies indicate that Greek consumers are amongst the most pessimistic in Europe and it is not difficult to see why. In 2012, the Greek economy contracted for the fifth consecutive year, unemployment climbed to an average of 24.3% and disposable income levels declined. As a result, consumers cut spending dramatically and when they did shop they focused on getting the best prices possible, whether through discounts and special offers or through switching to private label products.
