With a lacklustre economic performance and a rise in unemployment in 2012, there was uncertainty among Belgian consumers. Therefore Belgians chose to be careful about their spending and stay close to home. Bad weather conditions, especially during summer, weakened domestic tourism, and Belgians preferred to take a last minute trip to a sun destination.
