Peru increased its share of worldwide tourism from 0.21% in 2007 to 0.25% in 2011. In order to maintain this trend, the government and private sector joined efforts to develop infrastructure, including Lima airport modernisation and expansion. In order to promote the country's competitiveness, sales tax of 18% will be eliminated for inbound tourism.
