Self-service cafeterias, particularly kilo restaurants, which emphasise food by weight, remain a strong preference during lunchtime meals amongst workers mainly in standalone locations due to its affordable price (an average R$30 per kilo in 2012). A wider variety of homemade meals explains the success of such kilo restaurants, particularly for dishes that include Brazilian cuisine, served in buffet style.
