New Market Report: Travel Retail in Switzerland
Travel retail saw a 1% decline in value sales in 2012, which represents a slight improvement on the previous year and on the review period. The category had been affected by a number of factors, such as the recession in Europe, which affected short-haul arrivals and, to a lesser extent, demand amongst local consumers. A major factor has been the growth of direct sales through the internet, as consumers grow more confident about bypassing travel retail operators altogether.
