Defence expenditure in Sudan has fluctuated markedly in recent years. In 2008, the country was spending around US$2.8bn per year on defence. Figures for 2013 indicate that Sudan has spent US$2.3bn on defence, leaving the budget largely unchanged from 2012. It is expected to maintain a defence budget of US$2.4bn in 2014, with this figure rising in 2015 to circa US$2.5bn.
