Numerous factors were responsible for the slowdown in consumption exhibited by snacks bars over 2010-2012 and the first half of 2013. For instance, snack bars is a category which is mainly composed of imported brands, and product availability was adversely impacted by increasing import barriers. In addition, the expansion of snack bars was limited by high prices and competition from more affordable product categories, such as biscuits and sweet and savoury snacks.
