Consumers in the Dominican Republic from different income segments enjoy buying ice cream in ice cream shops, especially on the weekends. Consumers perceive ice cream shops as weekend entertainment for families and friends; thus volume and value sales of ice cream in supermarkets and hypermarkets and other non-grocery or grocery retailers are not significant. Single portion ice cream is commonly sold by street vendors in parks or other open air public entertainment areas.
