While the overall growth in volume of alcoholic drinks sales remained weak, value growth maintained positive momentum across most product categories in 2013. Continuing trends towards premium products and products perceived as of higher quality fed growth in value terms in both retail and foodservice. The trend has manifested itself in strong sales of craft beer versus largely flat demand for mainstream beer brands, as well as in the revival of categories like Canadian whisky.
