The UK economy returned to growth in 2013, and many other essential macroeconomic indicators were pointing in the right decision. On the strength of this, foodservice in the UK bounced back from a poor performance in 2012 to register growth at around the rate of inflation in value terms, although transactions and outlets were both static. However, it is important not to overstate this turnaround. Consumer foodservice in general remains very large and complicated, with many mixed signals.
