Growth in card payment transactions and electronic transactions remained strong in 2015, as the trend away from ATM transactions and cash payments continued. However, Austria remained dominated by cash, which was also illustrated by the public and political opposition to a new approach of a cashless society. In terms of card payment transactions debit cards remained the favourite at POS, whilst charge cards and credit cards were still mainly used online and when travelling.
