Cholangitis is an infection caused due to a swelling to the common bile duct. This swelling is often a result of one or more gallstones in the gallbladder obstructing the flow of bile from the liver to the small intestine. Cholangitis can prove to be fatal and often leads to morbidity amongst patients. This bacterial infection can also be the result of a tumor in the bile duct.
