Global Polyvinyl Butyral Market to Grow at a CAGR of 5.76% During the Period 2016-2020
PVB is a versatile thermoplastic material produced from polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH). PVOH is manufactured from polyvinyl acetates through transesterification. Aqueous PVOH reacts with an aldehyde in the presence of small amounts of mineral acids to yield PVB, which precipitates out from the solution and is filtered, washed, and dried. The product PVB invariably contains a small percentage of residual hydroxyl and acetyl groups. This resultant group along with butyral group dominates the characteristic properties of PVB.
