New Market Report: Global Myocardial Infarction Drugs Market 2016-2020

LogoMyocardial infarction, commonly known as heart attack, is the irreparable death of the heart tissue. It occurs when blood stops flowing to a part of the myocardium (heart muscle), depriving it of oxygen and nutrients. If the coronary artery that supplies blood to the heart muscle is blocked by the formation of plaque (a substance made of fat, cholesterol, and cellular waste), the heart is starved of oxygen, a condition called cardiac ischemia, causing tissue damage. Cardiac ischemia may lead to episodes of angina or chest pain. The slow build-up of plaque on the walls of the heart narrows the blood vessels and finally blocks them. Rapid flow of lipids through the vessels may also create a tear on the walls of the vessels causing aggregation of platelets and the formation of a clot. The clot formation causes obstruction of blood supply through the vessels, leading to necrosis or the death of tissues in the heart muscle.
