The higher inflow of cheaper imports following the implementation of the Cassis de Dijon law in 2012, and the outlet expansion of discounter chains, Lidl and Aldi, added further pressure on unit prices. This meant that despite an increase in demand witnessed by most categories, retail value sales were limited to overall stagnation.

SC Johnson remained the leading player in toilet care, accounting for a 36% retail value share in 2013. The company is not only present but also holds a leading position in all categories of toilet care and retains its strength due to the popularity and strong image of its WC-Ente brand. However, as a result of the increasing pressure from private label, SC Johnson registered a very slight share loss in 2013.
The forecast period is expected to bring more positive developments for sales of toilet care. Growth is expected to be mainly driven by a strongly positive performance in rim blocks, which is expected to reach a retail value share of 53% in overall toilet care by 2018.
