New Food market report from Euromonitor International: "Baked Goods in Italy"
Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/04/2014 -- Due to the economic recession, consumers in Italy implemented savings even on staple items. Regarding baked goods, this involved strategies such as people baking their own products at home instead of buying them, for example. This had a negative impact on retail volume sales of baked goods, which are expected to decline by 2% in 2013. In response, manufacturers developed offers which were increasingly specific when targeting customers, and the best performers were those that invested heavily in advertising and promotional activities.
Competitive Landscape
Apart from artisanal baked goods, Barilla is expected to lead baked goods in 2013 with its Mulino Bianco brand, followed by Bauli and Ferrero. Barilla's lead is primarily due to its leading position in bread, even though the Mulino Bianco brand is also expected to rank first in pastries and third in cakes amongst branded manufacturers in 2013. Bauli and Ferrero, meanwhile, are focused on cakes and pastries.
