Harrogate, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/19/2015 -- Sewing and crafting are seen as forces for good, especially in light of the recent announcement that a finalist of the BBC programme the Great British Sewing Bee, is helping Salisbury Hospital Spinal Centre's Horatio's Garden to prepare for its annual food and plant fair. Neil Stace, who was a key contender in the popular BBC show, is using his sewing abilities to prepare decorations for the money-raising venture.
After visiting Horatio's Garden – a recreational space for patients at the hospital – Stace decided to use his crafting creativity as a force for good. On his visit, he helped both patients and volunteers create colourful wheat bags; a rewarding, constructive as well as relaxing experience. With this team of volunteers and patients, Neil is hoping to create a variety of sewn and stitched creations to sell at the fair on 14th June.
The Remnant House, a Harrogate-based family businesses are providers of sewing fabrics and materials, as well as frequent commentators in the industry. They were quick to reflect on the recent news.
"We think the work Neil Stace is doing is simply brilliant" A spokesperson told us "We want to give our best wishes to all involved in Horatio's garden fair. We think a craft project like this can highlight that sewing can be an incredibly rewarding process.
Firstly, sewing and crafting are creative and rewarding activities in themselves. We are aware that access to materials and an ability to create something is a significant comfort to many. Furthermore, sewing offers so much prospect – whether you are young or old. A decorated fabric can be used to make fun toys and keepsakes, like Neil's work is aiming to do – but with the potential to make your own clothes, decorations and drapes - the possibilities are endless."
