North Carolina-based Wellness Center Excel Body Fitness donated towards making Foundation of Hope's Walk for Hope in Raleigh a reality this month. The annual event was held this year on October 9, 2016 just one day after World Mental Health Day – a day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. 100% of the money raised by participants directly funds local mental health research at the UNC Neurosciences Hospital in Chapel Hill. However, Excel's contribution towards the event is but one small show of how the North Carolina fitness center takes mental health seriously.

The North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association has announced that it will host an exhibit at the N.C. State Fair in the Exposition Center from Thursday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 23. The NCVMA’s 2012 exhibit will feature a new booth with a colorful display showing images of the many different types of veterinary medicine that are practiced in North Carolina. Members of the NCVMA will be at the exhibit to answer general pet care questions and will distribute literature on a variety of topics related to pet and animal health, including advice on how to select a pet, dog bite prevention, information about spaying and neutering, and more. The Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law has announced that Dean Melissa Essary has announced her intention to step away from the dean’s position after six years and return to full-time faculty responsibilities at Campbell University’s law school, effective July 1, 2012. Essary made history in 2006 when she became the first woman dean of the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. She led the relocation planning that moved the school from Buies Creek, N.C. to downtown Raleigh in September 2009, as well as increased law school applications to record levels; grew the student body from 345 in 2006 to the current 477, accompanied by a significant increase in the academic credentials of entering students; achieved the highest minority enrollment in the history of the law school; and continued the law school’s tradition of having the highest overall bar passage rate in North Carolina on the July bar exam over the past 25 years, among other accomplishments. Provost Dwaine Greene will convene the search committee to conduct a national search for the next dean of the law school.

Operation: Coming Home, a joint volunteer project led by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA), the Triangle Real Estate and Construction Veterans (TREAC-V), and supported by Royal Oaks Building Group and Gaines & Company, among others, has announced that the effort has attained official 501(c)3 status from the Internal Revenue Service, thus allowing all contributions to the charitable organization to be tax-deductible. This will benefit Operation: Coming Home in its efforts to direct more money to pay for homes constructed in the Triangle for disabled veterans of the Middle East conflicts. With this new status, Operation: Coming Home can apply to the N.C. Department of Revenue for exemption from state sales tax, corporate income tax and franchise tax as well.
