Competitive Landscape

Oral care in Lithuania remains a mature category which is controlled by deep-pocketed multinational players who compete fiercely for each and every percentage point of value share available. Procter & Gamble Services LT UAB maintained its longstanding leadership in oral care during 2012 with a 31% value share. Its Blend-a-Med toothpaste brand is very well known among Lithuanian consumers due to many years of strong advertising for the brand. The Blend-a-Med brand is also available in many extensions, each addressing a particular oral care need or problem. Procter & Gamble was a rather late entrant into several of the smaller oral care categories in Lithuania, although it is now competing strongly in small but promising categories such as denture care and mouthwashes/dental rinses, where it is present with the Blend-a-Dent brand and toothbrushes, where it is present with the Oral B brand.

Industry Prospects

Industry sources maintain that despite the recent surge in demand for oral care products in Lithuania, there remains plenty of room for growth in the category. Recent achievements in the category have been made in spite of the very weak state of the Lithuanian economy for most of the review period.
