RFID technology has come a long way since it was developed by Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1973. Broad RFID adoption began after EPC Global’s Gen 2 standard in 2004. Since then, RFID tagging was implemented in various industries tailored to each customer’s specific application. The end result - companies are able to quickly and efficiently track their assets, such as hardware, jewelry, pallets, office files and other items of importance. When choosing RFID tagging application that’s right for the company, users must consider the type, size and preferred location of the RFID tag on the asset, optimal RF reading range, its surrounding environment and shelf life.
