Touch screen productivity ensures that engineer-to-order manufacturers are capturing labor costs accurately and efficiently. This information is another critical challenge for the ETO manufacturer, especially when labor is directly applied to a major project. This is always a challenge for manufacturing when labor represents a significant percentage of the cost of goods sold. There’s a long standing effort to capture actual labor as accurately as possible without placing an undue burden on the labor force to manually record and type in labor time.

Hybrid Mode recognizes that the ETO shop needs flexibility to employ the most efficient production modality available. Being locked into only a traditional MRP shop floor mode may limit opportunities to cut costs, reduce inventory, or streamline a production process. With Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012, the shop can optimize processes based on specific requirements, including finite capacity scheduling, lean manufacturing, and more traditional shop floor methods.

Manufactured from engineering polymers, the Rotacaster’s injection-molded, weblike structure and over-molded rollers, ensure a durable and robust wheel with no pins, inserts or seams, making it ideal for tough environments. The fixed orientation of the wheel facilitates both simple and stable mounting alternatives that improve load stability and are less prone to impact damage.

Information delivery needs to be timely and meaningful. There is no reason why ETO firms cannot find out immediately about a shortage, an engineering change that affects production, or even updates to company policy or news. The information should lead directly to the place where follow-up processing can happen. There is limited benefit in receiving a shortage notification in email, if one must login to another system to resolve it.

ETO organizations today are under pressure to cut costs and produce more with less. This usually means fewer available resources for the tasks required for engineering, design and production. Many resources are now cross-trained on multiple disciplines or work tasks. Certain tasks require specialized skills and applying the wrong resource to a critical task can end up costing big time if the product is wrong or needs to be reworked.
