Scott Tucker has been named as the new artistic director of the Choral Arts Society, Tucker will succeed Norman Scribner, 76, who is retiring at the end of the year 46 years after he founded the chorus. After Scribner announced his intention to retire back in August 2010 the Society began their search for a successor which ended up turning into a demanding international search that drew close to 80 applicants. Each of the four finalists this season came in to work with the 170 member amateur chorus and chair of the board Barbara Rossotti was impressed with Tucker as soon as she witnessed his first rehearsal, stating that Mr. Tucker's rapport with our singers was evidenced by their immediate and inspired response to this direction.

The song “F - - - The IRS” by the indie band, Cutting Edge is an ‘in-your-face’ protest song against the I.R.S. that Cutting Edge is riding as a wave of growing popularity to the doors and halls of Washington D.C. Despite the title of the song, it contains no profanity, just good rock music that reminds one of the protest movements in the late 60’s and early 70’s. The song is a call for people to stand up against the growing deficit and out of control spending in Washington D.C. In America today, we are looking at the Occupy Wall Street Movement and other such movements continuing through the summer in the United States and around the world. Government is not responding to the needs of the people and the growing deficit is out of control; and with it being an election year, 2012 could be a ‘year of change’. “F - - - The IRS” is a song that speaks to the politicians from the hearts of most Americans today and could become the anthem for such change.

Military Wives Choir members said they were still “pinching themselves” as they announced their Christmas number one single had raised more than half a million pounds for charity. The song Wherever You Are, which used lines from the wives’ love letters to their husbands serving in Afghanistan, was the fastest-selling charity single since Elton John’s Candle In The Wind in 1997, the Official Charts Company confirmed. Managing Director of Cascade, a sales and marketing company, said “Here at Cascade, we believe in success from within. The military wives’ success in raising £500,000 is incredible and all down to how they feel. Their lyrics, which are taken from letters they wrote to their husbands is a prime example of success from within.”
