BMI View: China's IT spending growth is forecast at around 13% in 2012 which, due to a more negative economic outlook, is a slight slowdown compared with 2011. Despite an expected moderation in IT investment and retail spending over the next year, an expansion in consumer credit and a modernisation drive in sectors such as education, healthcare and manufacturing should keep the market in positive trend territory. The government's 12th five-year plan calls for significant modernisation of China's computing infrastructure. Meanwhile, China's strategy to develop the western areas of the country should support demand for IT products and services, even if the developed east coast economy hits a slowdown.

BMI View: Growth rates have returned to low single digits in 2012 following exceptionally high base rates in previous years. Compared with regional peers, 2012 year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 2.8% is very positive. Growth will pick up in the longer term with an average rate of 3.6% per annum to 2020. The construction industry is expected to rise in value from US$18.6bn in 2012 to US$28.6bn in 2016.

BMI maintains its view that 2012 will be another year of strong growth for Brazilian freight transport volumes. Although we expect a good level of growth to continue during our forecast period, there are a number of risks to our outlook for the country's booming shipping and freight transport sector, including the infrastructure deficit and signs of overheating in the Brazilian economy.

BMI View: Despite our forecast for a disappointing 2011/12 grains season owing to unfavourable weather conditions, Argentina will still run a surplus in almost all commodities.
