New Market Study Published: Construction in Japan - Key Trends and Opportunities to 2015

LogoThe level of activity in the Japanese construction industry declined during the review period (2006-2010) as a result of the saturation of key construction markets following a continuous decline in birth rates since the 1980s. This has caused Japan to have an aging and shrinking population whose needs are already effectively catered to and therefore have little demand for new construction, a situation which has resulted in the country's residential, institutional and commercial construction markets declining as a result of saturation. Furthermore, Japan's infrastructure construction market is struggling due to the fact that, as the country already has highly developed rail, road, air and port infrastructure networks, there is little demand for new facilities; while the country's industrial construction market is declining due to Japan's leading position as a manufacturing hub being threatened by emerging economies such as China and South Korea. Finally, the onset of the global financial crisis further exacerbated Japan's weak market conditions, leading the country's construction industry to record a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of X.XX% during the review period.

New Market Report: Non-Life Insurance in Hungary, Key Trends and Opportunities to 2016

LogoThe written premium value of the Hungarian non-life insurance segment slightly declined during the review period. This decline was primarily due to a decline in new vehicle sales and regulatory changes. During the review period, natural disasters, such as floods in 2006 and 2010, caused large-scale loss of life and property damage; and, consequently, had a significant impact on the Hungarian non-life insurance segment. However, over the forecast period, the growth of the non-life insurance segment is expected to be driven by the development of large-scale renewable energy and infrastructure projects, coupled with an increase in customer awareness of property insurance that is expected to require innovative and customized non-life insurance products.

Algeria Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare Report Q3 2012 - New Market Report Now Available

LogoBMI View: With the push into emerging markets by pharmaceutical companies and the dangers of importing drugs into the Algerian market well documented, it makes sense that large multinational drugmakers would want to partner with local companies. High rates of foreign direct investment in the past year also indicate that the Deloitte Vision 2012 report on the viability of using Algeria as a hub for the production of biologics was a success, and its recommendations have been at least internalised by the Algerian government. However, interestingly it is European drugmakers that are making moves in the country, while the Deloitte report was supposed to assist US drugmakers entering the market.

"Bahrain Business Forecast Report Q3 2012" Now Available at Fast Market Research

LogoElevated oil prices, an increase in government spending and financial support from Saudi Arabia should help bolster growth though 2012. That said, a weak outlook for the domestic tourism and financial services sectors will ensure that a return to pre-crisis rates of real GDP growth remain off the cards in the near term. While we expect growth to rebound slightly 2012, we stress that the economy's medium-term outlook remains contingent upon a lasting solution being found to the current political crisis. Unfortunately, we maintain our relatively guarded outlook on the prospects that the government and opposition can come to some form of agreement in the near term. As a result, political risks will remain elevated for the foreseeable future. Major Forecast Changes We have revised our balance of payments forecasts on account of a likely moderation in oil prices and weaker services credits. The current account surplus is projected to narrow to 4.4% of GDP in 2012, down from 8.7% in 2011. Bahrain's net international investment position should remain strong, which will ensure that the country's sovereign wealth fund continues its expansion in acquiring overseas assets. Key Risks To Outlook S hould the government fail to address some of the protesters' main grievances, Bahrain's political crisis could rumble on for longer than expected, with risks of the opposition becoming radicalised increasing by the day. A marked drop in oil prices concomitant with a slowdown in growth in Europe, the US and China would pose a significant risk to the country's near-term growth outlook and likely lead to a marked deterioration to the country's balance of payments and fiscal dynamics. I t remains unclear what impact 2011's political crisis will have on Bahrain's long-term economic outlook. Should investors begin to reassess the costs of doing business in the country and begin relocating to Dubai or Doha, Bahrain's growth outlook would suffer accordingly.

New Market Study Published: Heating Appliances in France

LogoHeating appliances showed an improved performance in 2011. Total volume and current value sales growth rates were up on 2010, and also much stronger than the CAGRs for the entire review period. This improvement was mainly due to an unusually cold winter in France, with much of the country experiencing heavy snow and some regions recording record low temperatures. At the same time, the category's improved performance also reflected an increase in demand for more sophisticated heating appliances...

Market Report, "Sports and Energy Drinks in Romania", Published

LogoThe modest but positive performance of sports and energy drinks in 2011 was the result of lifestyle changes in Bucharest and other large cities, where average incomes are higher. However, it should be noted that growth within the area can mainly be attributed to the fact that sales are rising from a low base. In addition, energy drinks continue to account for the majority of sales within the area despite the emergence and acceptance of sports drinks in the last years of the review period.
